My name, Juliet appeared in the middle ages. The feminine form of Julian which itself derives from Julius a Roman name.

Where did your name come from?
I got my name as an accident of birth. My mothers mother met a best friend immediately post- birth in a small maternity unit in the 1930’s. The two women remained friends and their daughters, born in the 50’s subsequently became friends. I am the third generation of this female bonding and am named after another third generation Juliet.
I do wonder if my mum’s friend was OK with her choice of name being used a second time. Sometimes an unusual name is chosen for its uniqueness. The other Juliet is a wonderful person so I have no problem with having a slightly secondhand name. Does sharing a name tighten our bond, I think so.

I’ve been a Juliet all my life, it is a name that has shaped me. I disagree with Shakespeare, my name has worth and meaning to me.

It’s a great name and my name, beth, was originally my middle name. Apparently my parents couldn’t agree and named me Susan beth, but reversed it when I was two years old. I have no idea who wanted which and no one left to ask. I am going to Chicago soon to get a copy of my birth certificate so this could be interesting

My mum was named Joy Patricia but always called Sally. Her father registered her name. No family links at all. Always known as Sally except to the friend in this story who always called her Joy.

I was named for my grandfather Claude who was in turn named for a family friend. I love my name and I think a person’s name is very important and special.

My Dads best friend was a man called Claude with a sister called Blanche. Amazingly romantic names for farmers children in rural Essex.

Yes, my grandfather was born in 1899 in a small farm town in Tennessee, and this family friend was from the same area, and I always thought the same thing, a very unusual name for that time and place. By the way I also have an uncle Claude Jr and a cousin Claude III. So this Claude name really got embedded in our family all right.
